A mermaid is a mythological aquatic creature with a human head and torso and instead of legs they have the tail of an aquatic animal such as a fish or dolphin. The males were called Merman’s but maybe also be referred to as mermaids. Mermaids were said to distract sailors and seamen by serenading to them with their enchanting voices. Some were thought of as being evil and would drown men out of spite.

Many movies have been made about these legendary creatures such as the famous Little Mermaid, and the 1990 film Mermaids.
